Sault Tribe Members Denied Vote!
Tribal Board could appoint new chairman in August
Sault Ste. Marie, Mich - After three months of discussions, the Sault Tribe Board of Directors appears ready to fill its chairman’s seat left vacant last May after Joe McCoy resigned with a year left in his four-year term.
The board voted Tuesday night 6-to-2 to appoint a new chair at its August 23 meeting. But that does not mean it will happen. They made clear they will follow an earlier resolution that requires the entire board be present before appointing someone to fill the last months of McCoy’s term.
The board has denied recent attempts to hold a tribal-wide election to fill the seat, citing the tribe’s election code that requires at least a six-month lag between elections. The tribe’s next general election is set for Jan. 2012.
The board will likely select from within, as Director Joe Eitrem has been nominated and acting chair Lana Causley has made it known she would take the seat. The board can appoint any tribal member to the chair who is 18-years and older.
The board also gave the nod to the tribe’s elder committee to hold a “meet the candidates night” early next year.
The lightly-attended meeting was held at the Sault Kewadin Casino. The tribe’s next regular meeting is scheduled for early August.

Would'nt it be poetic if the tribal weasel and scoundrel, Bernerd Boushor, got appointed Chairman the same as George W. got appointed President?

How sad such a small group has so much power. No matter what the choice might be, it certainly will not be a good one.
