Payment, Bouschor, Lumsden, and Hatch are the main troublemakers of the School. Their attempts to hide corruption has created a whole trail of victims.

I have heard that Nanci Hatch is on the phone daily with Mrs. Gadzinski. Is it possible that Nanci will be allowed to come back to the school if C. Gadzinski (Dale) is running it?

Nancie Hatch and Nick O'shelski both treat teachers poorly. Neither of them can teach. Nancie never did and Nick was such a poor one that they made him an administrator just to get him out of the classroom. Both of them are poor examples of leaders of a school.

Both Aaron and Bernard knew what Nancie Hatch was doing at that school and neither did anything to stop it so don't put it all on Bernard. Aaron is the one that said that he would close it. Both of them are horrible people as well.

The school is the best in the state what more need one say. the teachers will lose their jobs and new ones will take their place. Mich. is on the decline because of unions look at the large mfg plants soon uions will be no more .........

There is a lot of false information posted here. Nancie Hatch was a great administrator and never 'tortured' anyone. The few teachers who created all this hype were poorly performing staff to begin with and were afraid of losing their jobs! I do hate to say this but one of the biggest problem teachers was someone who was supposed to promote our culture and teach our traditions. He did anything but ! Anyone who knows anything about teaching and state assessments knows that test scores were never fudged. The tests are scored outside the school, and are made public by the scoring center and the Michigan Department of Education. Find out the facts before you print gossip and slander. Hatch and Oshelski built a great school, and a few bad teachers and outsiders tore it apart.

The Gordons are my friends but on this issue they are wrong. there son Chris should stop the assault on the shcool he is destroying a great asset of the tribe. never before has any thing tribal recieved so much praise and repect from the community. She was ruining the school and NMU recommended that the school board pay her contract off and finds another administrator.

The problem teacher you are referring to never had a problem in all the years he was there. Except for last year when he was wrote up 3 or 4 times. Looks like someone had a problem with him personally. Just like they had a problem with the 70 + other teachers and employees that left under mysterious reasons.

Why not find the truth out about these administrators that is pointing her and his finger at everyone else, just to distract the other employees and parents from the real issues.

Such as why did only 3 school board members approve a half million dollar pay out to Nancie Hatch when she had only 10 years of employment with the school in which she was well paid?

Who gave their approval to let Aaron Payment use school funds for his campaign that was run from the school, was it Nancie Hatch?

Why is Nancie Hatch threatening to sue the school if they release the terms of her contract?

Why was Nick Oshelski allowed to appoint whom he wanted and take two jobs for himself when there was clearly opposition to his appointments and jobs?

Why is the school board sitting back and allowing all this to happen?

There are bigger things going on at that school then a few teachers and the union. That is why they want you on that issue so you don’t scratch to deep into the surface and see the real issues that are going on behind the scene with the school.

He went from Coach of the year to walking out the door because Tim Hall The Athletic Director gave him a choice to resign or be fired because of the good old boy system in this town. He said that he did nothing wrong and they would have to fire him if they want him gone. Ask the School Board President what he thought of this young man. I think you will be surprised in what he tells you. The stories in this town about this just shows me how sick some people can be. Then again there are a lot more people in this town that will tell you that Sault High lost one of the best Coaches in the area.

You don't need much documentation about the good administrators, just take a look at what went and is going on. If Hatch quit, she needs to return the money, so she never says that. If Hatch was asked to leave by Northern, it shows that she was lousy, so she shouldn't say that. Yet Bill Hrywy, of NMU, is on tape saying, "The best thing that's happened to this school is to get rid of Nancie". She should be real careful what she says about how she left. Of course she hides her contract so no one can really see what it says. What kind of a normal person does that? Then you've got Oshelski down there, keeping up the Hatch tradition of threat, intimidation and retribution. He is being sued by the MEA for violating State of Michigan Labor Laws. Just check old issues of the Evening News and you will find documentation in there. He sounds just like the kind of man that should be running a school, doesn't he? Hatch's strong vision and abusive leadership brought your school to ruin.

Now that you mention it, I can tell which ones Nancy Hatch wrote. It is easy to tell. She doesn't have a good grasp on reality either. I was thinking that one was Schwanda Kangas, she and Nancie are alot alike.

I can guarentee you that neither Nancie Hatch nor Shawnda Kangas are on this site. They would not engage is these lies and fabrications that are spun by one or two people. You are printing false information. Our school is seen as an example of success. Or at least it was. People who know nothing about education, and who are serving their own self interests, such as Gordon, are tearing it apart. Remember, you who prides himself on having documentation, that there was never one complaint filed against Hatch in all her years. Not one. Chris Gordon tried to appeal a reprimand and he got shot down by the Board. And now, most of the teachers are wise to his games and his lies as well. So much trouble started by self centered people. I heard from some very reliable sources that most of the Board and administrators wanted Gordon gone this year. But then Oshelski chickened out. Gordon has been trouble everywhere he went. The Sault Schools will never , ever hire him back. This statement was told to me by their administration. And it is true. He is self centered and ego centric. Everything has to be his way or he engages in underhanded , malicious gossip and attacks. Gee, sounds familiar. Wonder if he is related to MD........He did terrible things there as well. He is a sad person and thinks he is above the rules.

Oh, Chris did not 'walk out the door' of sault high. He was fired by the Board of Education. Plain and Simple. Fired ! For Cause ! That was in the paper even, it made headlines. I was told he would have been fired during the year but they needed a coach to finish the season so they let him stay. Too bad Bahweting got stuck with him.

Here now, would that Board that "shot him down" be the same one that reinstated him and kicked you to the curb, Nancie?

Oh, and did you know that over half of the teachers who voted for the union have now rescinded their vote ? They realized they were lied to, and fell into believing a lot of the lies that were rampant. CG and MD are among those cited the most as telling the lies. The only reason they school may continue now is if the Tribal Board allows them until fall to disband the union. So stop blaming Aaron, it was CG, MD and a handful of poor performing teachers who did all the damage.

I didn't see any headline story in the news about Chris being fired. I did read a very complementary letter in the Open Forum from an extremely supportive set of parents. What are you talking about? I guess you better run your headline story at the Facts site or no one will believe you.

My view is the better the teacher the more Ms. Hatch liked you. Nick is a controller that should be turned into the DOL. The school is an award winning school because of Ms. Hatch and the teaching staff. Ms.Hatch was ill and the pressure from Bouschor and his idiots he sent to disrupt the school made her more ill. Maybe her contract had an "illness clause" in it, since actually Bernard knew that she was ill the first year she was there. He continued to receive letters of complaint about her each consecutive year until he was gone. He just kept protecting her. From what I hear, not by a particular source, but by many different people that work at the Casino, they are treated very poorly. Why not have a Union in there to put a stop to that? That would be a good thing.

If you voted for the union then you should have done a little research and you would know the answer to that question. Yes they are having difficulty because the former Chairman got them in a lot of hot water with sneaky business deals. Then he paid off a bunch of employees to quit and they lost almost 3 mil with that deal.

Look what happened when they got rid of some of the people at the casino for being lousy at their jobs and treating those they supervised badly. The casino people arent the ones out picketing for a union. It's the same people that kept showing up at the school to make trouble. It makes me wonder if someone isn't paying them to do this. I guess you don't need a Union if you are paying people to leave, HA, sorry. I know, you mean people at the top, like Nancie Hatch. She was paid to leave too. But they didn't pay off any of those poor teachers that they fired. So certainly a Union would be a good bet for both operations until the Tribe matures enough that it doesn't need to operate a reward and punish government. I think the Union is a very good idea for the Tribe. It would help stablize the maddness there.

I don't think Unions are paying people to push Unions. I think employers are abusing workers and that is what makes the workers bring in the Unions. They need them for protection.

A separation of powers is a very good idea. Just make sure that you split up those families read good in each branch of it or it may wind up with the same thing.

You are right that would be terrible! We would have to go by the rules that was meant for everyone. Just think we would not be able to hire our children and close family members. We would have to give everyone a fair chance at a job opening.

We would not be able to use people to do our bidding. We would have to actually earn that position like everyone else. You are right! It just makes sense to keep the union out and off our land.

For the sake of the children. They should not be used as political pawns The school was a gem but its all gone now. the B.O.D. wants to close it down at the end of the year. the chidren would be better off getting out now I have heard they are looking for room at sault schools for all the kids maybe they could reopen mckinley. the children need to make a move soon for their well being before all the hatred effects them.

How negative some of these posts are. The school is not closed. It's not over until it's over! Simple solution is to close it at the end of the year, change the name, pray that NMU renews the charter, make us all tribal government employees and move on. At least we will have jobs. I am not ready to be out of work and wondering how I am going to pay the bills. Work towards a solution instead of placing blame on those that had nothing to do with it.

If that is your simple solution then you are in trouble. First of all the Tribe does not have a very good record when it comes to their employees.

Second you cannot close the school down and reopen with the same employees. That’s called union busting and no State entity will get involved with that kind of illegal tactics. Also you would lose your middle school because it is now a rule that no charter school can do that anymore.

Third all the problems started with the school that had a runaway administration and not enough on the school board to control them.

They went through employees like the Tribe and no one did anything to stop it in fear of losing their own job. You had a small group of people who ruled with a dictator style and had no checks or balance for their actions.

Then you come on here with a statement that people were “placing blame on those that had nothing to do with it.” Well if you were one of those people and knew what was going on and chose to look away. I would have to say you had everything to do with it along with turning your back on your fellow employee just to save your own job.

Actually there is a simple solution to this problem. It was mentioned at the MEA meeting with the parents. They agreed to write up a contract with the Tribe stating that they will not interfere with the Tribe’s Sovereignty when it comes to the school.

Thus eliminating Payment’s claim that this was all about the Tribe’s Sovereignty and their right to self govern. You can call the MEA office to verify their exact statement on this issue.

The Tribal board knows this! I do not understand why they would want to keep threatening the people and using our children as pawns to this sick game. I for one am very upset with Payment and the Boards and so is my family and friends. This issue will be on all of our minds when it comes time for elections!

A school can not be used in political games like this one is being used. Yes, all of this is going to effect the Sault Tribe elections. I don't think it is having the effect that Aaron had in mind. If he survives and the school survives he will find more ways to use it in his political games. Get the school away from the screwed up Tribe or it will be a dark place for all time. The people that are using the children as pawns are those that took a chance with their future for the sake of what? Let's leave the kids out of a problem that started with adults. Continously bringing children into the picture to cover the actions of adults is disgusting. There may be good cause to bring a union in but let's be honest about who is doing what to whom. It seems it all goes back to the administrator. My question is, would it be the previous or the current administrator that has brought the
school to this present scenario? If it is the previous and she is gone then why the delay in bringing forward a union? If it is the current administrator that
is the true dictator then why isn't everyone standing together on this? My advice, from past experience, is to stand up and don't sit down, literally. There is strength in numbers and do you really think he could fire a large number of people and get away with it. He would not want the publicity connected to that action. You people need to be realistic. Why do you continue to
blame the Chairman for something that an entire board is responsible for? The board represents the native community so don't leave them out of the picture. You people keep blaming the Indians and you probably will find yourselves out of a job sooner or later. It is obvious to anyone that you are creating an animosity between the tribe and the school staff that was almost non-existent prior to this union issue. Many tribal members clearly have very strong loyalties to their leaders. When you continue to bash and blame a leader that is considered by more than half the tribe to be some sort of salvation, than you are biting off much more than you planned to chew. I work in the Native community and I am telling you that some of you teachers that are making derogatory comments about the chairman, the board and the native people are being terribly insensitive and are placing yourself in a very precarious position. What I have read in this blog are teachers that seem to talk down about the Native Americans and their children. I have read references that imply that Indians are incapable of making intelligent choices for their children and I find that deplorable coming from teachers. Initially, I was an observer with no opinion. That has since changed. I see bias and racism being used as a weapon against natives, and children being used as a tool to force a tribe to bend to the takeover by a union. Thank you all for setting the record straight.

Get the school away from the tribe!
The tribe owns the property and the building. The tribe formed the school, hence the name JKL Bahweting. If it weren't for the tribe the school would not have had it so good. Without the tribe, there would be no BIA funding. Without the BIA funding, the school would be just another public school. What an assinine comment!

If parents are going to move their kids over to the public school they should do it at the end of the Semester (around the second week of Jan.) This way they can start a full 2nd semester in their new school and just transfer their grades from 1st sememster at Bahweting. They will complete this year at their new school and not be so nervous about starting a new school next fall.

That sounds like a good idea. That way the public schools can start planning how many teachers they will need to hire to teach the extra returning students and maybe even hire some of the Bahweting teachers right now.

It is hard to imagine that the students haven't been terribly effected by the turmoil that is going on there. Your idea sounds like a way to just scoop them and the teachers right up and take them out of all that misery. I like it too.

The teachers could have joined together and made a plea and a promise to the tribal board that they would de-unionize after it's year is up. An apology for causing so much distress would be helpful whether they feel it or not. Instead some prefer to make a bad situation worse by insulting the chairman, the board and the native community by suggesting that Indians don't know how to parent, that we aren't able to make proper decisions for our children. Without the Indians there are no BIA dollars as they are finding out. That still doesn't seem to make it clear to some though. They should chose a leader to go before the tribal board and negotiate. To be more believable they need to choose someone that was advocating strongly for the union in the first place. For someone who didn't vote for the union to go before the board with a plea would have little or no impact.

All the derogatory comments about Ms. Hatch's hair and other similar meaningless drivel flow out of the mouths of the ignorant. Those are the people who cause destruction and they should really try focusing on the needs of others. It could change their whole perspective on life.

AARON PAYMENT AND NANCIE HATCH HAVE INSULTED THE WHOLE EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM. THEY ARE SOLELY TO BLAME.

I wonder what State Labor laws say about people having to apoligize for voting in the Union in order to save their jobs. Don't forget about the court cases that will follow in the wake of the Board's action, or Aaron's action, or Oshelski's action. It is illegal to threaten to close a place because of Union activity. The Supreme Court has already ruled against the Tribes on this matter. Does the Tribe have enough money for another long drawn out court case? They will get one as soon as Aaron, or the Board try to open a new school and not employ the very same people that voted for a Union at the other school. It's a real Catch 22 for the Tribe. Like someone else said, "A big mess". Someone will have some apologizing to do but I am sure that it will not be the teachers. Can't imagine why all this happened when teachers will argue black and white AND not do their homework. You only worked 2 hours a day at the school. So for anyone to miss you within days and when you left the school collapsed and fell apart.

Actually the staff was relieved that she only put in a couple of hours a day because when she was there EVERYONE was on pins and needles. You never knew when she was going to fly off the handle and you never knew who would be her new target. It was an awful way to try to work. Then for a period of time, she went into a real reclusive mode. Tracy R. in the office said, "The only way we know if Nancie is here these days is to look in the parking lot for her car". During that time, she would just come in the backdoor, go to her office and shut the door.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion of their boss and you will get negatives and positives not matter where you go but I miss her
and disaster struck when she left.

Way before Nancie left, Aaron said that he was not going to renew the lease on the school. Nancie always told us that it didn't matter if they renewed the lease or not. She said that we had enough money to open our own school. She must have known a way that we could do that, but, of course, never shared that with anyone. I wonder how much she really had to do with the "disaster that struck when she left". Just thinking.

She left...that's what she had to do with the disaster. It is my opinion and it is based on what happened not only with the union issue but morale. It seems that all labor laws went out the window
at that time also.

Aaron did not say he would not renew the lease. It's not up to him...it is up to the tribal board. Those Unit one directors that held a unit meeting in August that do not want to renew the lease and want the school to go back to being a tribal school were Cathy Abramson, Dennis McKelvie and Joe Eitrem. I was there and that is what the entire meeting focused on. Payment was horrifed that they would take such a stand against the school. To suggest that Payment would not renew the lease is a complete fabrication of the truth.
