Tribal Board

The Tribal Members Want Change!

We have now reached a full quarter of leadership under a new administration. It appears our new Chairman has been working diligently to bring our tribe into financial stability by making employment cuts.

It is also very obvious our Directors are reluctant to do the same. As Chairman/CEO of our tribe, Chairman McCoy has full authority to make employment cuts except for key employees. It is the responsibility and authority of the Directors to terminate employment of key employees (top management).

As we know many of the key employees have been through the last two administrations and some are relatives of the Directors. As the history of the Sault Tribe leadership reflects, nepotism runs high, competence runs low and the Directors reluctance to act responsible runs extremely low.

The last two election cycles the membership has done their part to try and make the changes needed. This last cycle the membership appears to have made the right decision in electing a Chairman that has so far done his part. Unfortunately the entire membership cannot make the decision of who represents us as an entire Board thus we have a BOD that continues to lack leadership.

In most cases decisions made by the BOD are voted on by the entire BOD. But in order to have a vote on any given motion it has to be brought to the BOD for support, there being the lack of leadership.

It is obvious to all tribal members that leadership history has also shown us that deals are made and if one Director steps on toes of another many positive actions are lost regardless of the impact on the tribe.

If we look back into the history of our tribal leadership it will reflect that many of the leaders have been in and through the last two administrations and where are we now?????? Chapter 11 in Greektown, robbing our elders dividend to make up for incompetence, and programs essential to the membership being cut.

I can't speak for our Chairman but it appears he is not getting the support of his BOD as far as addressing top management. So far our Chairman has accepted the responsibility of near total incompetence of the entire period of Federal Recognition of the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians while the BOD has not which has brought us to where we are now.

The Chairman was the only one that reported the actions of the BOD in taking from the Elders Fund the first time and sent a press release also reporting the recent action of taking another $5 million.

It's now time for the BOD to act responsible and bring competent management and respect back to our tribe.

TOUGH DECISIONS

In order to improve things in the long run we need to make tough decisions. These tough decisions need to include our failures of the past that still exist within our enterprises.

There are key employees who must go and they must go now. Their lack thereof expertise partially put the Tribe where it is today. The following people must go:

Adams Lenny
Bernier Cheryl
Bouschor Allan
Chase Darcy
Cloudman Kristin
Eavou Carol
Gelphi Craig - Updated - (Announced His Retirement!)
Goetz Tony
Hickman Veronica
Jeffreys Brenda
Little Kristi
Matson Vic Jr
McDonald Jamie
McDowell Rick
McKechnie Isaac
Sawasky Prinny
Sprecker Stephanie
Sprecker Steve
Tannehill Cheri
Vallier Cliff
Wilson Cory - Update - (Gone!)
Warne Ted

I want to know when the board is going to cut its pay? Bernard said it was time for members to tighten their belts well that goes for them also

You mean their money belts right!

How about they start with eliminating their retirement pay.

They receive this money and benefits after serving only 2 terms on the Tribal Board of Dictators.

Are you starting to feel like you are just a number in this Tribe? If so, you have just became part of the 30,000+ other members who feel the same way.

When businesses fail you don't blame the workers, unless you are in China.

You blame the Tribal Board of Directors and Top Managers, the decision makers!

Great article TG!
