Tribal Board

The Tribal Members Want Change!

We have now reached a full quarter of leadership under a new administration. It appears our new Chairman has been working diligently to bring our tribe into financial stability by making employment cuts.

It is also very obvious our Directors are reluctant to do the same. As Chairman/CEO of our tribe, Chairman McCoy has full authority to make employment cuts except for key employees. It is the responsibility and authority of the Directors to terminate employment of key employees (top management).

As we know many of the key employees have been through the last two administrations and some are relatives of the Directors. As the history of the Sault Tribe leadership reflects, nepotism runs high, competence runs low and the Directors reluctance to act responsible runs extremely low.

The last two election cycles the membership has done their part to try and make the changes needed. This last cycle the membership appears to have made the right decision in electing a Chairman that has so far done his part. Unfortunately the entire membership cannot make the decision of who represents us as an entire Board thus we have a BOD that continues to lack leadership.

In most cases decisions made by the BOD are voted on by the entire BOD. But in order to have a vote on any given motion it has to be brought to the BOD for support, there being the lack of leadership.

It is obvious to all tribal members that leadership history has also shown us that deals are made and if one Director steps on toes of another many positive actions are lost regardless of the impact on the tribe.

If we look back into the history of our tribal leadership it will reflect that many of the leaders have been in and through the last two administrations and where are we now?????? Chapter 11 in Greektown, robbing our elders dividend to make up for incompetence, and programs essential to the membership being cut.

I can't speak for our Chairman but it appears he is not getting the support of his BOD as far as addressing top management. So far our Chairman has accepted the responsibility of near total incompetence of the entire period of Federal Recognition of the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians while the BOD has not which has brought us to where we are now.

The Chairman was the only one that reported the actions of the BOD in taking from the Elders Fund the first time and sent a press release also reporting the recent action of taking another $5 million.

It's now time for the BOD to act responsible and bring competent management and respect back to our tribe.

Downright Ridiculous!

Elders And Children Are No Longer Safe!

Although the Board's made an effort to pull the Tribe out of a huge deficit, they have yet to make those tough decisions. Are they unable to do this or is it a matter of timing?

THE LATEST MEETING

A resolution was passed at the last meeting that stated the following per the Tribal website:

Two resolutions were approved as part of a $5 million operational loan with Huntington Bank. The Tribe’s intent is to use tribally owned real estate as collateral for this loan. Since the real estate for collateral arrangement will take some time to finalize, the Tribe will use the Land Claims Trust Fund as temporary collateral for the loan. This action requires the fund to be moved from National City to Huntington Bank. This $5 million line of credit will be used to help fund membership programs, payroll, and other governmental programs as needed.

End of article.

FIVE MILLION MORE?

This is a joke right? No, no joking here folks. They will collateralize Five Million Dollars more of the Land claims (Elder Fund).

In the same breath they claim to have 12 million dollars in equity at the Shores Casino. If they have this equity, then why use the land claims money?

NOTHING NEW

Bouschors nephew's website boasts about all Bouschor did that made the Tribe so successful and Aaron Payment ruined it all. Payment was part of it, but Bouschor was the kingpin at the time.

Under the Bouschor Administration the land claims money was used for Greektown. Under the Bouschor Administration the land claims money was used for the Shores Casino in St. Ignace.

Years prior to the use of the land claims money Bouschor boasted how good of shape the Tribe was in. I think he was referring to him and his cronies to include Allard Teeple, Aaron Payment, Fred Paquin and Mike Lumsden, to name a few.

We should have had cash on hand to build the St. Ignace Casino.

Then, Unit One Members are naive enough to vote Bouschor back in.

NOW THE KIDS

Chairman McCoy in his Unit report states the following:

The children’s Christmas party was also cut for this year along with the Christmas gift cards for tribal employees. We are now in a state where it’s time for all of us to work together in order to improve things in the long run.

We can blame the Board for that one.

Just this spring they decided to cut the Children's work program. Later with everyone complaining they decided to rescind it when it was all ready to late for the children. Many Tribal Children who counted on those jobs were displaced and faced many hardships.

They must immediately stop Fred Paquins pay of over $10,000.00 a month. If Paquin is found not guilty we will pay him back. In the meantime we need the money.

The Advocates feel a lot has been done, but those tough decisions need to be made real soon.

Is A Referendum In Order?
